Do you consider advertising as an investment? or do you think it’s a huge expense?

What can you do to make it an investment for your business?

The key to effective online advertising is to know how you can reach your potential customers.

In this 3 part series, I am going to tell you about the 4 important strategies and the tips you need to consider to effectively advertise online.

The 4 important strategies are:

1. Attention
2. Clarity
3. Action
4. Outcome

Let’s talk about Attention today.

What’s Attention?
No wonder everyone wants their ad to be noticed, to be recognized which we can define as ‘Attention’.

If you are an advertiser, you should be an attention seeker.

So how can you be the center of attention?

Here are some tips to follow:

1. Understand Your Target Audience

Before you create an ad, make sure you know who you are trying to target, what type of customers you expect to receive, and their motivations to buy your product or service.

If you have a good understanding on your target audience, you can create ads to reach them on a personal level.

When you build a product/service, you already have a picture on whom you are going to target. Observe the people who match your criteria, see what they share on Social media, involve in discussions, and know what they expect from a product/service like yours.

If you invest your time and effort to get to know your audience and their interests, you are likely to succeed within a short span of time.

2. Know What Sets You Apart

In other words, this is known as Unique Selling Proposition (USP) which means you should figure out what distinguishes your product/service from other similar products/service.

Imagine someone comes across your ad, and notices that you have a product they are looking for. So, how can you make this potential customer to check your product? Just tell them what makes you unique, and focus on that one trait that separates you from other competitors. Chances are you are going to take the lead. 🙂

Your unique selling proposition could be the convenience of using your product/service or it could be the quality, the innovation or the reliability – anything that can possibly make your customers feel that they have made the right choice.

3. Define Your Brand

One of the main reasons for advertising is to increase brand awareness, as it’s one of the key steps to promoting your product, and to reinforce your brand loyalty.

Though this is not a vital component for advertising, it can aid you to get a good online exposure, as it signifies the value of your product or service.

Your brand name should be easy to choose, find and think of. After all, it’s a habit of consumers to make choices based on brand names and logos.

4. Design a Visually Appealing Banner

I am a visual interest, so is everyone. 🙂

Design a banner that can catch viewers’ attention. Add exciting graphics to your banner, but make it simple and clean.

Here’s a few things you should consider when designing your banner:

  • Recognizable Format: At Halal.Ad, we have made it easy for you by only giving you the 2 most recognizable formats: 300 x 250 and 728 x 90. You can design banners using both formats to test and see which one drives more traffic to your site.

  • Image Type: Using the right image type will help your ad to load faster, and not stuck somewhere. I recommend using JPEG or GIF, so you will not miss your potential clickers. Also, make sure to keep your image sizes small (under 150 kb).

  • Fonts: Use fonts that are clear and simpler. Don’t use extremely thin fonts. Use different sizes for headline & body. As a simple rule, make it instantly readable.

  • Background: Use a simple background that aligns with your brand, but won’t distract readers. If you are planning to use a picture, make sure it extends with your message and brand. If you are opting for just a background colour, choose the one which won’t make it difficult for readers to see your message.

  • Relevancy: Graphics and Photos should be consistent with the brand and message you are going to deliver. Choose colours that match with your brand and make easy for readers to see your message. Use buttons appropriately for call-to-action, as it’s known to improve your click-through ratio. More importantly, your ad should look professional.

“Clients are full of surprises. Design is what you make of the surprises.”

— Dan Phillips

5. Use A Powerful Headline

Have a clear-cut headline to grab the attention of viewers. The headline plays a major role in selling your ads to the potential customers and making that small space much more important (we will talk more about it in Clarity, insha’Allah).

That’s all we have for you on Attention.
